The Bond and Levy transfer was passed April 6, 2021 with Question 1 receiving 77 percent approval and Question 2 receiving 69 percent approval of voters’ support. Question 1 is a $20 million no tax increase bond issue and Question 2 is a $0.32 no tax increase bond issue. Superintendent Dr.Jason Snodgrass felt that these issues really resonated with the community engagement committee.

“This was important to put all these issues on the ballot for folks to be able to decide,” Snodgrass said.

The $20 million no tax increase bond issue will also provide better parking areas for the school.

There will be better parking for students and staff with the new parking changes.
“I am most excited about the parking because I know it will be the biggest impact on the students and help them possibly not have to walk as far or complain about being full,” Sophomore Nora McDaniel said. “I think it will also improve the look of our campus and open it up a lot more.”

The first projects on the improvement plan involve a new administration building and bus barn east of Fire Prairie Upper Elementary School. This will eventually open up more parking on the main campus. Freshman Drevious Black feels that the new changes will help students be more involved in activities.

“I feel like it would help us participate in more activities and expand our area or expertise.” Black said.

With the $0.32 no tax increase levy transfer the district will be able to construct a new varsity gym. Even though most students attending the high school currently won’t get to experience the improvements they are still excited to see the outcome of the school.

“I am really glad that it passed even though I probably will not get to experience it, it’s super helpful for the future of our school,” McDaniel said.

Ground will be broken on the new  administration building and bus barn east of Fire Prairie Upper Elementary as soon as possible.
