DEDICATION. Senior Jaydon Osborne listens to questions during a recent scholar bowl practice. Osborne has attended seven tournaments during his time in scholar bowl. “Tournaments are always really fun,” Osborne said. “And we have a lot of memorable moments.”

Story by Aiden McClure, Reporter

Scholar Bowl competitor Senior Jaydon Osborne finds himself in the midst of a slew of difficult questions that test obscure knowledge on subjects ranging from mathematics to mythology. This position is one he is used to, however, as a member of the scholar bowl team he is specially equipped and educated to handle the flurry of inquiries. Osborne quickly presses down on his buzzer before swiftly answering the question presented to him, and of course, gets it correct. The questions continue to roll in during the practice session as each member of the scholar bowl team attempts to buzz in and answer as quickly as possible.

Osborne has been competing in scholar bowl since 2019. He feels that scholar bowl has helped cultivate some of his interests outside of school.

“I feel like it’s really helped me open a pathway to my love of mythology,” Osborne said. “Even in my personal life with the games I play I know more of what’s going on because of scholar bowl.”

Osborne became the captain of the scholar bowl team this year. Sophomore Kaden Sloan feels Jaden has been able to help the scholar bowl team become more competent players.

“He’s a great team captain and super important to our team,” Sloan said. “he makes all of us more confident and definitely helps us perform better.”

Osborne is the mythology expert of the scholar bowl team. Junior Kaleb Smith appreciates the important role he fills for the team.

“He’s great at mythology and literature,” Smith said. “he definitely carries in those subjects and I feel like if we didn’t have him we wouldn’t go nearly as far.”

Jaydon has scored a total of 990 points during his entire career in scholar bowl. Jaydon believes that scholar bowl isn’t only a chance to express students’ academic prowess, but also a time to have fun.

“We usually have a lot of fun during practices,” Osborne said. “So it doesn’t just let me test the knowledge I learn, it also lets me enjoy myself.”

Winding down practice the team discusses an upcoming tournament. An air of lighthearted fun can be felt throughout the room. As practice closes and each member of the team exits the classroom, Osborne cracks a smile of satisfaction at the work achieved.
