‘To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before’ lives up to romantic comedy expectations

“To All the Boys I loved Before,” rated TV-14, provides Netflix viewers with a classic romantic comedy.

“To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before” is a textbook example of classic high school romance. The film follows Lara Jean Covey played by Lana Condor who has all of her secret love letters exposed which puts her in a fake relationship with Peter Kavinsky played by Noah Centineo to cover it up.

Lana has been in a handful of other movies but to “To All the Boys…” was the first time she was the starring role. She played Lara Jean Covey wonderfully bringing life to Jenny Hans relatable character and portraying her as a realistic high school student.

Noah Centineo has had smaller roles in movies and shows but the role he’s best known for is Jesus Adams-Foster in the Fosters. Since starring as the Lanas leading loving interest in “To All the Boys…” he has gained close to a million followers on Instagram and praise for both his good looks and acting skills. Noah played Peter as a confident and easy going character who is easily adored.  

Susan Johnson who has directed some smaller movies in the past really made her mark with “To All The Boys…” putting a lot of care and dedication into the acting and casting. The film was shot in Vancouver, British Columbia which was a change from the book which mentioned some landmarks from Virginia. Despite the scene change the story is not affected.                   

Fans of teen romance will love this movie and it’s engaging characters. Although the movie plays by traditional romantic comedy tropes the relatable characters and touch of humor make up for the predictable ending.
