TRACK & FIELD: Girls win City Championships, Boys take second.

The boys and girls track teams competed in the Independence City Championships on April 28, 2023. William Chrisman, Truman, and Van Horn also competed in the meet hosted at William Chrisman. The girls team won the track meet and the boys placed second. 

Senior Paige Franks led the girls with her wins in the 400 meter dash, the 800 meter run and the 1600 meter run. She won the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:02 seconds. She won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:30 seconds. She also won the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:46 seconds. Franks was thrilled to win City Championships her Senior year.  

“Winning all of my races for the third year in a row and winning it all was one of the best moments in track I’ve ever had,” Franks said. 

Sophomore Zachary Crismon won in the high jump with a jump of 5 feet 10.75 inches. Crismon also placed third in long jump. He felt extremely confident in his high jumps that day.

“It was surprisingly easy,” Crismon said. “It was down to me, Khristion Hall (FOHS), Antonio Graham (WCHS) and I won.”

First place finishes on the girls side include Jocelyn Nunez in the 100 meter, the 4X400 meter team, the 4X800 meter team, Jocelyn Nunez in the long jump and Neveah Wilson in the triple jump.

First place finishes on the boys side include Jordan Jamis in the 3200 meter, the 4X200 meter team, the 4X400 meter team, the 4X800 meter team, Ryver Peppers in the long jump, Grayson Moore in the pole vault, Anthony Thompson in the discus and Isaac Woodward in the javelin.
