11 students signed their letters of intent to play college sports on Feb. 24. Mikayla Stickler signed to play softball at Central Methodist University. Kayle Tyra signed up to play volleyball at Central Methodist University. McKenna Gilpin signed to play golf at Missouri Valley University. Rebecca Cox signed to play soccer at Graceland University. Madison Smith signed to play soccer at JCCC. Hannah Roberts signed to cheer at Missouri Valley University. Isabela Hunt signed to wrestle at Avila University. Isaac Woodward signed for track and Field at the United States Naval Academy. Anthony Thompson signed to play football at Emporia State University. Isaac Fields signed to play at Southwest Baptist University. Grayson Harris signed to play baseball at State Fair Community College.
Anthony Thompson was a starting linebacker. He led the team with 112 tackles and four sacks. Thompson also played running back this season, leading the team with 87 carries and 638 yards. Thompson believes that he owes it all to his teammates and coaches.
“If it weren’t for my teammates and coaching staff, I wouldn’t have been able to make it to the next level,” Thompson said. “I’m very grateful for them.”
Mikaya Stickler committed to Central Methodist University for softball, but she is also a state wrestler. She believes it feels great to play a college sport.
“It feels really great,” Stickler said. “It has been the end goal since I started when I was like 7. It’s all I’ve wanted to do.”
Isaac Woodward committed to the United States Naval Academy for track and field. He has qualified for state and has placed 8th and 7th. Woodward is excited for the opportunity it can bring him.
“It’s going to be able to give me an opportunity to throw in the Olympics,” Woodward said.
All athletes had an opportunity to give a speech and then were surprised at the end with a video from their loved ones.
