6 wrestlers capture State Title

TOP OF THE PODIUM. Holding the title card, Senior Aroma Marrufo stands in the champions spot for the 110 weight class at the MSHSAA Girls Class 2 2024 State Wrestling tournament. Marrufo is the second girls state champion in school history. “I was so happy and felt accomplished,” Marrufo said.

On Jan 23, 2024 twelve wrestlers headed to compete in the Missouri State High School Activities Association State Wrestling Tournament. Six wrestlers took home hardware from the tournament. Junior Colby Gray feels like it was a great experience, but he’s not satisfied. 

¨It feels good getting 2nd at state,¨ Gray said. ¨It’s not how I wanted it to end.¨

Gray took home a second place win at 150, finishing 52-4 on the season. Junior Mikayla Stickler took home a 6th place win at 100. Sophomore Isaac Ward believes that he made many memorable memories with his team.

It was a great experience,” Ward said. “Me and the team made a lot of memories this past year and I could never ask for a better team.”

Ward took home a third place win at 190. Senior Gavin Gallman placed third place at 215. Sophomore Kaison Schreier came in first place at 106 ending the season undefeated. He feels as if the season gave him confidence 

“It feels good going undefeated and getting first,” Schreier said. “It gave me confidence going into next year.”

Senior Aroma Marrufo also got first place at 110 ending the season with 47-1. Marrufo feels that the hard work has paid off. 

“I feel very accomplished to be able to get first at state,” Marrufo said. “I’m happy that the hard work has paid off.”

The boys team finished 6th overall with 91.5 points. The girls team ended in 12th place with 47 points.
