Fort Osage celebrated its artists at the Visual Art and Innovation Tech show on April 24. Students from across the district showcased handmade art and furniture to highlight the creativity of students from elementary to high school.
Art teachers work with their students to select the art that will be displayed at the show. Fort Osage High School Art Teacher Dr. Wright feels that she is proud of her student’s accomplishments.
“I absolutely love teaching my kids and I think they did an awesome job,” Wright said, “There is such a variety of skills.”
Artist Lexus Butler’s piece entitled “Burnout” utilized a styrofoam head with melted gelatin as a metaphor to describe her life. Butler believes the show gives students a chance to express themselves.
“I think it really shows how much creativity we have and it shows diversity,” Butler said, “Where everyone comes from as well as their life stories, I wrote about my traumatic past.”
The show was held in the Fieldhouse for the first time. Junior Neveah Walters loves looking at the pieces the younger kids have crafted.
“I think it’s very cool how talented some people are, especially at such a young age,” Walters said, “I never could have done this myself and it really draws me into them.
