Band students find success at District

Story by Trey Lee, Reporter

The band program sent students to compete at District and 10 of these student groups are headed to State. The District competition took place at Lee’s Summit North High School on April 2. Senior Elizabeth Hesse believes the whole band team did amazing.

“The hard work really paid off for us,” Hesse said. “Me and my partners all did well, we really paid attention to each other more than we usually do.”

The competition was postponed for the past two years due to COVID-19, it was new for some of the students to be there. For the seniors, it was their first time back since freshman year. Ms. Gregory knew the students were ready and felt they gave it their all.

“I was excited for the students to be able to have that opportunity,” Ms. Gregory said. “They really benefit from going to the competition instead of doing it virtually.”

Out of the 10 events that qualified for State, the Flute Quartet was the biggest group. Freshman Sydney McClusky feels the quartet did an amazing job.

“I feel we all did our best, especially for the amount of time they had to practice,” McClusky said.

The students who qualified for State are as follows:

Elizabeth Hessee, Stephenie Leonard, Sydney McCluskey, Jessica Smith – Flute Quartet

Alana Edgar–oboe solo

Haley Gregory–clarinet solo

Olivia Siefker–flute and piccolo solo

Breyana Cox–flute solo

Cade Tucker–piano solo

Adalia Spidle–piano solo

Logan Mullins–trumpet solo

Mixed Woodwind Trio–Haley Gregory, Sadie Waller and Olivia Siefker
