DRIVING THE LANE. Looking up the court, Senior Ashyln Buntin (11) challenges Truman’s Cece Mora (21) while Macie Smith (24) anticipates a pass. Buntin’s favorite basketball memory was the team dinners. “It’s sad knowing this is my last year at Fort Osage,” Buntin said.

Dribbles echo from court while Senior Ashlyn Buntin defends a player. As the opposing team shoots and misses, the rebound is quickling recovered, rushing the players up the court. The ball is passed to Buntin where she drives the lane to make the layup.

Senior Shooting Guard Ashlyn Buntin has been part of the women’s basketball team for all four years, but has been playing basketball for 12 years. Buntin believes her teammates are the best part of basketball.

My favorite part of basketball is making friends,” Buntin said. “Especially the friends I wouldn’t have if it wasn’t for basketball.”

Buntin has not decided on a college but she would like to play a sport and become an elementary school teacher. Sophomore Kyliana Bisbee feels that Buntin is a leader.

She is someone I can look up to because she is such a hard worker,” Bisbee said. “She always is going the extra mile while holding her team accountable at the same time.”

Buntin is not only involved in basketball, while she is also on the girls golf team and is a part of broadcasting. Junior Emmah Crowe thinks that Buntin brings the team together.

“Ash is one of the most disciplined people on the team,” Crowe said. “She brings this energy and sense of humor that lights up the gym and helps glue the team together.”

Buntin believes that her biggest motivators are her parents for always wanting her to do better. She believes that younger kids should enjoy their time.

“Don’t take your time for granted,” Buntin said. “It will all go by so fast, and be over before you know it.”

Buntin begins to run down the court with a grin, high fiving her teammates. As the coaches are yelling and parents are cheering, she gets back in position to play defense to help stop the other team.
