Career Fair Offers Opportunities

GETTING INFORMED. Packing the varsity gym, students visit various college booths to find out more about each school. This was the first Career and College day offered by the school.

Freshman’s, Juniors, and Seniors attended the College and Career Fair. Oct. 14, 2021. Students went to classrooms to learn about different careers. They had the opportunity to check out different colleges in the varsity gym. Senior Jasmine Guardiola thought this was a day well spent.

“I thought the classes were fun and I really liked them,” Guardiola said. 

There were 36 career options. Senior Jorge Ocampo went to the F.B.I session.

“The F.B.I course was something new to me, but I overall liked it,” Ocampo Said

The Independence Police department and Sheriff Department hosted sessions. They talked about what it takes to be a police officer and their academy experiences. 

“I like how he get to kick down the doors and go in peoples house,” Junior Avery Parker said 

Transformed Barber and Cosmetology Academy along with Rico’s Cuts were also there . They spoke about how long it would take to get a barbering license and their dedication. Senior Sarah Baggs participated in the barbering course. 

“They were really helpful and I liked how they talked a lot about their experiences like cutting Chiefs players hair,” Baggs Said.

A total of 26 colleges set up in the gym to visit with potential students. Senior Tyreek Berry took this opportunity to look at college sports. 

“I liked that the colleges were here,” Berry said. “I got more information about their basketball teams.”

Students ended the fair in their advisory classes talking about their day, their likes, and their dislikes about the college and career fair.
