Computer Science students competed in the VRoCKs Spring 2022 Hackathon at UCM’s Lee’s Summit campus. They took first place in their division on April 22.

The Spring Hackathon is a competition where different schools or participants are given a generic topic that they’re supposed to find a solution or find some way to contribute to the industry while using VR or Unity. Noah Dinwiddie served as leader during this project and wished they could have added more even though they took first place.

“Our project was over Aerospace,” Senior Noah Dinwiddie said. “We had to do a VR presentation over anything in the aerospace field.”

They chose to make an Air Traffic Control Tower where one can see a plane take off and see the radar and controls that real Air Traffic controllers use while in the tower.

This competition was the second one they had won this year. The first was in the fall.

Their team enjoyed building their project and competing against the other teams.

“I was surprised because we won back to back but it was really fun,” Freshman Alex Edgar said.

They competed against five other teams and came out on top with their second win. Coach Hodges enjoyed watching them compete, every team was able to make a different project.

“Last competition we took first place so I felt really confident that we were going to do well,” Phillip Hodges said, “I feel like we were a bit better prepared going into it and we had key students who knew what they were doing a bit more so it put us a bit ahead. All the teams did a great job and I love how much teamwork was put into this competition.”
