HONORED. Junior Brady Darr receives his pin from National Honors Society Co-Sponsor Ms. KassieGravely. NHS is built upon four pillars: scholarship, responsibility, service, and leadership.

Story by Shia Mobley, Co-Editor

Eighty-two students were inducted into the National Honors Society March 29. The ceremony was held in the PAC where students repeated their pledge and received their pins. Junior Raven Pearson was excited to be accepted.

“I tried really hard on my essay,” Pearson said. “I was really excited to be accepted. It’s nice to see my hard work being paid off.”

The ceremony was led by current members of NHS with Ms. Heather Hopkins as a guest speaker. To be eligible for NHS, students must meet the 3.5 GPA requirement and acquire traits such as good character and dedication to the community. Junior Joshua Stone was happy to be inducted.

“I’m glad I got in,” Stone said. “I’m proud of all my friends who got in as well, it was nice seeing them being appreciated.”

Students who met NHS requirements applied to the program by writing an essay and submitting a letter of recommendation. Students who were accepted were rewarded with ribbons to signify their acceptance. Current member Aliya Clem is happy to have new members.

“It’s cool to see new people accepted.” Clem said. “I’m glad that they did.”

The first meeting for the new NHS members will take place April 13 after school inside the media center. You can find more information about NHS by contacting the sponsors Heidi Dailey and Kassandra Gravely or by looking at their Twitter profile.
