The Indians Varsity Football defeated the Truman Patriots 29-20 on Friday Oct. 16. The Indians are now 2-6 on the season. After tough losses at their previous games Head Coach Brock Bult knows the win feels good for the team.

“Obviously the kids feel great, they needed this, we needed it,” Bult said. “We have a lot of young kids that are going through some growing pains. We just needed something positive, we had enough setbacks. Whether it’s in the game or injuries, to see these kids overcome the early setbacks in this game and come back and fight and play together and cheer for each other, I was impressed with our team tonight.”

With Truman up 14-0 at the half the Indians had to catch up in the second quarter. Sophomore wide receiver Lorenzo Fenner scored a 16 yard touchdown on a pass from Sophomore quarterback Gregg Menne early in the 3rd quarter. Fenner feels good with the plays he made.

“I am feeling good after the win on Friday and I’m ready to win some more,” Fenner said in an email. “The team did good contributing to the game on Friday they did their job, everybody was rolling on all cylinders.”

Sophomore running back Izaiah Larusch scored a five yard touchdown followed by a touchdown by Menne. Junior running back Jaeden Penamon was proud to contribute to the team.

“’I’m happy I could make some big plays for my team to set us up to score a couple of times, I’m glad we got the win and I was able to contribute and play my role for us to get the win,” Jaeden Penamon said. “We played as a unit and for each other, we fought hard and we had a reason to be out there on the field, we weren’t gonna let someone take what can be our last home game away from us like that so we flipped the switch after halftime.”

Fenner capped off the score with a 4-yard touchdown in the fourth. Sophomore wide receiver Christen Penamon feels the team pulled together to win.

“I am feeling good coming off a hard-fought team win,” Christen Penamon said. “I feel good contributing to the team, I am glad I am able to be out there to fight and try to get us a win. I feel like we worked together, the sidelines contributed which helped get us motivated to keep fighting.”

The team is now preparing for the Class 5 District 8 tournament, which starts on Oct. 30.
