The Indians Varsity Football lost 34-7 to the Belton Pirates Friday Sep. 25. The Indians are now 1-4 on the season. Indians Head Coach Brock Bult sees room for improvement.

“The team kept playing and didn’t quit,” Bult said in an email. “There were some good individual performances and plays but we were not able to string them together to gain any momentum. We have been working to improve in all areas and are stressing to be better than you were the last play, series, or practice.”

Junior running back Corey Olvera scored the first, and only, touchdown for the Indians set up by sophomore quarterback Gregg Menne’s 17 yard pass to senior wide receiver Ben Nettleton to start off the third quarter. Olvera feels the team could improve on executing their plays.

“I know what we have and everyone knows what we have on this team and what we’re capable of, we just need to go out there and execute like I know we can,” Olvera said in an email.

Friday was the Indians Homecoming game. Proceeding the game was the crowning of homecoming royalty. Senior defensive back Blake Williams was disappointed by the loss.

“We had what I felt like was a good week of practice and we just came up a lot short,” Williams said in an email. “We’re 1-4 going into week 5 and that just doesn’t feel good.”

The Indians take on Grain Valley at home Oct. 2 at 7 p.m.. The game will be broadcast by KFOI Sports on the NFHS Network.
