The varsity football team defeated the Grain Valley Eagles 33-14 on Aug. 26. The Indians defense held strong totaling three interceptions and two fumble recoveries. Senior Roman Tillmon, who had one of the interceptions, felt that the defense held their ground throughout the game.

“I felt like we did well playing the pass,” Tillmon said. “We came up and stuck them when we needed them.”

The Indians came up with four touchdowns and two field goals. Junior Xander Shepherd made both field goals of 25 and 5 yards. They had 274 total yards with 187 passing and 87 rushing. Sophomore running back Ryver Peppers thinks that the offense played really well.

“I feel like we really executed and did what we needed to do to get the win,” Peppers said. “We pass blocked really well and Greg had a lot of time to throw the ball.”

Peppers had 106 passing yards as well as 82 rushing yards. He scored two of the four touchdowns. Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator Brock Bult believes the team united as one and played well.

“I thought they played great as a team,” Bult said. “All three phases came together. Our team came together, supported each other, and found a way to get it done.”

The team sits at 1-0 on the season. They will face the Kearney Bulldogs at home on Sep. 2 at 7 p.m.  KFOI sports will be streaming the game on mshsaa.tv.
