Today the school celebrated differences as part of Fort support week. The morning started off with an announcement by senior Bobby Pinnell.

“Today is a day here at Fort where we celebrate our differences,” Pinnell stated in his announcement. “Your life would be so boring if everything was the same.”

This week was designed to raise awareness for depression and self-harm. The idea for this week is to remind the students that they always have someone to talk to and that they are not alone.

“I know a lot of people that struggle with depression and they’ve told me this makes them feel safer at school,” sophomore Antoinette Hoke said.

During lunch, Principal Scott Moore made an announcement about the posters and everything else that’s happening during the week. Sophomore Shyanne Miles supports the idea of Fort Support Week.

“I think it’s a great idea,” Miles said. “I think it will help people a lot and I think it shines light on this subject.”

Students were able to sample ethnic food from Italy, Mexico, and China. They were also encouraged to meet someone new and find out something about them.

“Now is the perfect time to appreciate differences and to celebrate the vibrant, colorful, diverse world you live in and the school we attend,” Pinnell said in his announcement. “Remember, everyone has something valuable to contribute.  Everyone, including YOU, is unique.”

The week continues with on Thursday with Pay if Forward day and Friday is Fort Pride Day.
