COMMITMENT: Seniors Harley Vassholz (TL), Audrey Griffin (TR), Riley Christiansen (BR) and Kaitlyn Ward (BL) all signed Letters of Intent to play college sports.

Story by Cali Roberts, Reporter

Four students signed their letters of intent to play college sports on Feb. 5. Harley Vassholz signed to play softball at Southwestern College. Audrey Griffin signed to play volleyball at Central Methodist University. Riley Christiansen signed to play baseball at Oklahoma Wesleyan University. And Kaitlyn Ward signed to play basketball at Avila University.

Harley Vassholz was a starting pitcher for the Indians and had an ERA of 4 in her senior season. She pitched 12 innings and had 15 strikeouts. She allowed 15 runs, only walking 4. Vassholz was enthused to sign to play college softball.

“I’m so excited to be signing to Southwestern College,” Vassholz said in an email. “The environment of the school is amazing, the coaching staff is everything I could’ve asked for, and overall, the school is my second home.”

Griffin, an outside hitter, had a service percentage of 84.1 percent in her senior season. She had 42 aces on serves, 186 assists, 101 kills, and a total of 12 blocks. Griffin has been looking forward to a chance to play in college.

“I was excited during my signing since playing college ball was something I’ve wanted to do since I started playing in middle school,” Griffin said in an email. “I am also excited to start college and meet new friends and I think playing a sport will help me be more involved. Since Central Methodist is a small school, I think it will be a more comfortable environment for me as well.”

Christiansen primarily pitches for the Indians, but batted in 6 runs in his sophomore JV season with a batting average of .313. He pitched 12 innings and had 9 strikeouts. He had one homerun and 4 doubles during that season as well. Christiansen expressed gratitude to be able to play in college.

“It’s exciting being able to play baseball at a college level,” Christiansen said in an email. “Not a lot of kids get that opportunity.”

Ward played forward for the girls basketball team and led the Indians in 3-point field goals with 39, had a 78 percent free throw percentage, scored 189 points and had 31 assists during her senior year. Ward also had a total of 68 rebounds for the season.

The signing was live streamed by KFOI Sports and can be viewed on demand on the NFHS Network.
