Four students on the Fort Osage Speech and Debate team qualified for the National Catholic Forensic League (NCFL) tournament. The students submitted bids to the NCFL on March 23 and found out on March 27 that they qualified. Sophomore Bradyn Banasik qualified in Extemporaneous Speaking, Junior Christopher Brown qualified in Original Oratory, Freshmen Alexis Dang and Kindra Moore qualified in Duo Interpretation. Speech and debate coach Mr. Bobby Phelps finds that everyone is working hard.

“They’re working hard, and it’s gonna be a lot of hard work but it’s going to be good.” Mr. Phelps said, “Logistics are the thing that are kinda hard, it’s getting all the hotels and transportation to Louisville and that part of the trip is stressful.”

The contest will be in Louisville, Kentucky. Freshman Kendra Moore is looking forward to the trip.

“I’m pretty excited,” Freshman Kendra Moore said. “It’s going to be a really fun event. especially going to Kentucky as a team.”

This is the 5th year that members of the Speech and Debate team have qualified for the NCFL tournament. Sophomore Brayden Banasisk feels his favorite part of speech is the community around it.

“Definitely the community,” Sophomore Brayden Banasisk said. “Like, our team. It’s a lot of fun. Being able to have our team and just build stronger relationships with everybody, and we all still have a lot of fun at the tournaments just being able to compete, and enjoy winning.”

These four students will compete in the  NCFL National tournament May 27-28.
