The girls basketball team fell short to St. Joe Central 66-3 on Jan.6. Fort Osage’s defense tried to hold strong the whole game with 19 total rebounds. Freshman Brianna Aviles had a total of five rebounds with freshman Lupe Yamauchi right behind her with four. Junior Macie Smith feels that the team gave a lot of effort the whole game.

“We played the best we could,” Smith said. “We gave it our all, but just came short.’

Smith led the team with 10 total points. She also had three rebounds and made 83.3 percent of her attempted free throws. Smith ended the game with four fouls, one steal, and a deflection.

The team had a total of 16 fouls on the game, and 22 turnovers. Junior Ashlyn Buntin thinks that there are improvements to be made on both sides of the ball.

“I think we need to work on our rebounding because the other team got a lot of boards over us,” Buntin said. “Offensively I think we just need to be ready for the ball.”

The team racked up a total of 31 points and their free throw percentage for the game was 57.9. Sophomore Emmah Crowe believes that having all your players holds a lot of importance.

“We were losing some of our assets and our communication needed to be better,” Crowe said.

The Indians now sit at 2-8 on the season.
