Hope expands on itself in many ways. It is as water to any volume of a container, hope is a moral ideology and theological concept that fits into beliefs, lifestyle, and society itself. But with God Of War 3, hope is the instrument of a positive transfiguration to oneself in a physical way. In Kratos’ case, from vengeance and guilt. Now obviously my masterful writing makes this story and game very interesting. But to be perfectly honest, it is not. Just like the rest of the series, Kratos is a dull muscle man who makes no sense, and any who think his character is “deep” are the types to punch holes into drywall and listen to Five Finger Death Punch. But to understand these flaws, we must over-analyze the same combat, the horrible, sellout (more of a sellout than Fall Out Boy) art style.
So the combat has the same, lazy button commands, with a nerfed version of the Blades of Chaos (now called the Blades of Exile), which are just scuffed charcoal-colored versions, with magma inside them, like how it feels when I forget to put on lotion during winter (if you use any other types of a lotion than Aquaphor you need to be placed in jail with the dementors). However, you do get four other weapons, Nemean Cestus, Claws of Hades, and the Nemesis Whip. These are fun to use, but they didn’t even include the blade of Olympus, which was never answered, since Kratos had it at the beginning of the game. Each of these weapons and some of the tools are acquired by boss fights with the Gods of Olympus, and to be honest, this is one of the only cool things about the game, the inclusion of more boss fights. Now don’t get me wrong, they are flawed and are gimmick fights, but if you fight them on higher difficulties, they are fun.
An anonymous user of the r/PatientGamers believes this combat refutes my claim of it being very basic,
“Personally, I think the combat is a lot more engaging than GOW 2018.” They continue to postulate by stating, “The camera is far superior for combat, the enemy variety keeps things fresh.”
The art style has taken a massive blow compared to the second game’s take on it. From the very boring and pointless re-color from vibrant colors to mainly greys and very basic shots. While also replacing the semi-realistic character work from the second game with uses of black and heavy shadowing to kind of move towards the realistic character design that most Playstation games and the industry as a whole were moving towards.
God Of War 3 keeps a steady 60 frames per second with very little slowdown, even with the constant action and scale of certain highlights throughout the game. The assets of water and textures throughout the game look good (since all of it is grey and black). r/PatientGamers user PedroMan, believes the graphics are great but are definitely a downgrade to future entries.
“The remastered graphics are well done. I mean, it’s definitely NOT on the level of the new God of War or anything remotely close to the PS4 generation graphics.”
Overall this game was pretentious and delivered on such a scale, that it kind of forgot what the previous entry(s) were. But this is only my opinion and it may be too harsh, but I get why some people may take a liking to this game.
