DRIBBLE. Looking for an open teammate, Senior Alannah Hair (12) moves to a better position on the court. She has scored 33 points during the season so far. “Always smile and have fun,” Hair said in response to what advice she would give younger players.

Senior Alannnah Hair kneels down by the score table to check into the basketball game. She takes her hand and wipes it across her forehead to remove the excess sweat off. Her face becomes serious when the buzzer cues her to go in. She gets up quickly and runs onto the court ready to put some points up on the board.

Hair has participated in the girl’s basketball program all four years of high school, but has been involved with the sport since she was just 8 years old. Hair believes that this experience has helped her gain new friends.

“It’s more of a team,” Hair said. “You aren’t just looking out for yourself. You grow bonds with everyone.”

Hair plays guard for the team. Not only is she involved in basketball, she is also involved in girls’s golf. Sophomore teammate Lupe Yamauchi feels Hair has very good energy on the court.

“My favorite thing about Alannah has to be her voice on the court,” Yamauchi said. “She is a leader and not only helps me, but our whole team.”

Hair also is one of the team captains and holds the title of “Who follows the team rules on and off the court?” Hair was voted on this by her own teammates. Sophomore teammate Niki Bisbee thinks Hair is a strong leader.

“She doesn’t put up with back talk and stuff,” Bisbee said. “She will set you straight.”

Hair plans on getting her bachelor’s degree in nursing and potentially further that degree into a doctorate degree.

Hair runs directly to the sideline waiting for the referee to hand her the ball to throw in. She stands there patiently as she scouts which teammate she is going to pass it to. When the referee hands her the ball, she shouts out the play. As soon as she passes the ball in, she sprints to an open spot on the court so the offense can execute the play.
