CARD CREATION. Concentrating on the cards, Junior Lily Duncan (L), Sophomore Payton Beutler (M), and Sophomore Skky Harper-Berry (R) make cards for wounded soldiers. Once they are done they will send them to Walter Reed hospital. “I love seeing their reactions and their smiles,” Lily Duncan said.

The Helping Hand Club returned to Fort Osage. Government Teacher Ms. Angleique Jungmeyer is running the club with fellow Government Teacher Ms. Sharon Wood. Ms. Jungmeyer believes students should get more volunteer opportunities at the school.

“Ms. Wood and I thought it would be a good idea to bring it back,” Ms. Jungmeyer said.

The club not only wants to provide a way to volunteer but a way to earn hours for different clubs. Mrs. Jungmeyer understands that it may be difficult to have scheduled meeting days in the week.

“I created a Google Classroom, so then we can decide which days we feel like we need to meet and then we know who can make it and who can’t,” Ms. Jungmeyer said.

The club is currently making slippers for the elderly in nursing homes. Junior Lily Duncan enjoys making the slipper because she knows it is making an impact on their life.

“I think we have made a good impact, because whenever they look at their feet, warm slippers will be on them,” Duncan said.

Bigger organizations do not have slots to volunteer currently. However, Junior Kevanah Pinter loves all the opportunities the club provides.

“I love that Ms. Jungmeyer and M.s Wood brought back the club because then you can volunteer at the school and with your friends,” Pinter said.

Any student interested in joining the club can contact Ms. Jungmeyer or M.s Wood. The club was reinstated Oct. 19, 2022.
