SHOUTCASTING. Raising the microphone to his lips, Senior Xander Hill delivers his welcoming speech to the Rocket League livestream viewers. He is in his first year of being on an Esports team and his first year being a shoutcaster. “I think the opportunity to introduce people that may be unfamiliar with individual games or the entire scene of gaming might be my favorite part about shoutcasting,” Hill said.

Senior Xander Hill looks at the screen, eyes darting in every direction consuming every ounce of information he can see in the game on the screen in front of him. His mouth moves non-stop constantly explaining every detail of the game at hand. His heart races as he watches the close game between Fort and the opposition. Team Fort pushes the ball downfield in an all-out attack, Hill glances up and looks toward the clock. His heart drops, the clock drops to 3, and he counts “3… 2… 1!”

Xander Hill shout casts the Rocket League matches for the high school Esports team.

Hill wants to show people how thrilling gaming can be with Shoutcasting.

“There are people that watch just to support their kids,” Hill said. “And I like to try and make it a bit more exciting for them.”

Hill won a state-wide Shoutcasting competition in his first year as a Shoutcaster. His reward was the ability to shout cast the Rocket League state competition with a professional shout caster.

Sophomore Maurice Amosa loves to hear Hill Shoutcast.

“It’s so cool to listen to,” Amosa said. “He calls what’s happening the instant it happens.”

After high school Hill wants to attend a college around Missouri and get a teaching certificate. His goal is to work for a school with an Esports team so he can continue Shoutcasting.

Freshman Nayla Hernandez thinks he’s a cool person.

“He’s pretty chill,” Hernandez said. “He always gives us advice about stuff that we all need to work on in our games.”

Hill is the president of the debate team which he has attended since freshman year. He also takes part in Scholar Bowl and Tennis. He enjoys activities where he can talk.

“Shoutcasting seemed perfect for me,” Hill said. “I know a lot of things about Rocket League and I really enjoy talking so it just fits.”

”GOAL!” He screams. Team Fort successfully scores within the final three seconds. Everyone in the room jumps around celebrating as the MVP screen cuts on. The game closes as Xander Hill gives his post-game speech, “With a last-second goal the Fort Osage Varsity Rocket League team goes home with the victory.”
