With each new school year, big changes occur. New teachers, new courses, new football field, and for next year, a new student body president. Rising senior Grace Iloilo has officially been elected for this title and is eager to start right away and help impact the district she has always loved.

“I’ve been in StuCo for the majority of my life and it’s always been something I’m passionate about,” Iloilo said via email. “I felt that being Student Body President would help me help others on a larger scale.”

Not only is she looking forward to being Student body president, Iloilo is currently a chapter officer in FFA, which is another leadership role, one that has prepared her for the responsibilities and decision making of the presidency.

“As far as changing things, that is confidential, however anything the student body has concerns about, I will do my best to change that,” Iloilo said via email.

As an advocate for the entire student body, she is ready to use her voice and platform for the good of the school.

“With my new role, I am most looking forward to helping the student body and being someone people feel comfortable confiding in,” Iloilo said via email.

Ms. Fran Brunette is the adviser for student council, and is finishing up her 23rd year in that position. The Student Council President is elected by students in grades 9-12. It’s a democratic process with the person with the most votes winning the office. And Iloilo was the student with the most winning votes.

“Grace has a big heart and loves to help people, and I think that will be the cornerstone of her tenure as StuCo President,” Ms. Burnett said via email. “She will lead with heart and will come with lots of fresh ideas for the council to consider.”

Being StuCo adviser is all about advising and coordinating all aspects of the council program while making it a learning experience for the elected officers and growing STUCO’s role to be an integral part of the high school.

“Grace will be a good fit in being the Student Body President because she had a lot of creative ideas to make Fort Osage students happy and being comfortable with being themselves,” Junior Kale Rupniewski said via email.

There definitely is a support for Iloilo and her run, as well as a want for change in the school.

The only changes I would like to see is everyone should become more social with each other, ” Rupniewski said via email

Iloilo will prepare for the upcoming school year by attending StuCo summer workshops and leadership seminars.
