Mickey’s Mouse Trap trailer review.

The future for Mickey Mouse’s first film iteration.

The new year has finally arrived, and we all left 2023 behind along with all the amazing films of that year. A new film is planned to be released in March 2024, and that movie is Mickey’s Mouse Trap.  This film is set to be a comedy/horror and the basic summary of it so far is that a girl named Alex is stuck at an amusement arcade on her 21st birthday and her friends decide to surprise her when a masked killer dressed up as Mickey Mouse decides to hunt them down.

Before we start talking about the trailer let’s first talk about Steamboat Willie going into public domain.  Steamboat Willie’s Mickey Mouse is just a black-and-white counterpart to the colorful and expressive mouse we know today, he also wears a hat and doesn’t wear gloves. Steamboat Willie was supposed to originally go into the public domain in 1984 but Disney kept extending it through Congress. Now, after 95 years of being held in corporate chains, Steamboat Willie entered the public domain on January 1st, 2024.

The trailer has to be the most cliche movie trailer I have ever seen. The premise is a masked killer pursuing a group of teenagers in an amusement park after hours. The masked killer has a group of people that he is using to help hunt them down. Why he is doing this is what we don’t know for sure, but my guess is that it is a past friend or something stupid yet deep. One of the biggest reasons I think this is going to fail is because Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey is a horrible film.  The beginning section was cool in its drawing style and explains that they are killing for food like the animals they are. The bad part is the mask he wears because it just doesn’t look that good, the acting is terrible and bland and the dialogue just not working well. The ending is the worst part and has Winnie the Pooh claiming his final victim as Christopher Robin, the kid from the original series all grownup, runs away into the woods. If this cheap mascot horror movie failed this badly at making a story, I would have to assume the same for Mickey’s Mouse Trap due to budget.

In general, this movie has a 50/50 shot of being good due to the Winnie the Pooh, Blood, and Honey film doing so horribly. I don’t think this will be a good movie in the sense of it being a horror, I think that it will be funny for how bad it will be and how generic it might become. It might be like the scream movies of a normal person wearing a mask and tricking people but let’s not give up our hope just yet.  This might be a good movie or it might just mess up Mickey Mouse’s reputation just like they did Winnie the Pooh. #THEMOUSEISOUT
