As students walk into the gym for the fall sports assembly Principal Scott Moore is telling people “hello” and “how are you?” Once all the students are settled in the bleachers Mr Moore stands in the middle of the gym and begins to talk about how he has the privilege of being the principal at the best high school in Missouri.

Principal Scott Moore served the Fort Osage School District for 15 years. On March 16, he sent an email to the students and parents of the district announcing he had accepted a position at Smithville High School to be the principal. Mr. Moore made the decision to be closer to his family.

“My daughter is 15 and goes to Park Hill and she dances and I hope it will give me the chance to be more involved in her sports,” Mr. Moore said. “Another thing is, it’s a challenge. It’s my next thing after being here for 15 years.”

Mr. Moore wants people to know his door is still open. He feels the students trust him and appreciate him as well as the community. Sophomore Mckenzie Estes believes he impacted students’ lives.

“He was one of the only teachers in the school that you could tell actually cared about people,” Estes said. “He will definitely be missed because we need more people like him in school.”

Mr. Moore believes one of the best parts about Fort Fort Osage is the people that make up the school.  Freshman Sean Plasime thinks that this is a good opportunity for Mr. Moore.

“It’s sad to see him leave but if he thinks it’s best for him I want him to do what he believes is best,” Plasime said. “He deserves this opportunity”

Superintendent Dr. Jason Sondgrass announced that Dr. Joshua Luke will be the new head principal starting June 1st. Mr. Moore is ready for the new opportunity.

“I’m ready for the new journey,” Mr. Moore said. “I have very many mixed emotions about it though.”

Mr Moore begins running and pointing to every grade level in the bleachers yelling, “WE-ARE-FORT,” to get the students hyped and cheering. The chant continued while Mr. Moore runs off and hands the mic to the next speaker.
