If you’re an alternative person like myself and have social media then there’s no doubt you have seen the announcement for My Chemical Romance’s Long Live The Black Parade tour where they play the album in its entirety. Recently at the When We Were Young festival for the first time since 2008 MCR played The Black Parade, which caused many fans to speculate that something bigger was in the works. And the fans were correct.
On November 11, 2024, MCR posted to their Instagram a photo of red wording that I can’t quite figure out what it is but it looks like “KCR” in a different language, with a misty city in the background with what looks like loose paper flying around with the caption “If you could be anything, what would you be?”. Quickly this post was all over social media, with fans desperately trying to figure out what it could mean. Many speculated it was a long-awaited new album or Paper Kingdoms, the MCR album that never came out. While others who paid closer attention realized the city in the background was almost identical to the city that can be seen in the back of the Welcome To The Black Parade music video from 2009. Suddenly a Reddit post was made by an anonymous user on MCR’s subreddit, it claimed that on November noon Eastern Standard Time, a tour would be announced. This caused confusion and distress within the community. Was this someone just messing with everyone? Or was this the truth? Lo and behold the time came and sure enough, Long Live The Black Parade U.S stadium tour was announced, but to many fans’ disappointment there were only 10 shows you could get tickets to, this left many fans extremely upset especially because during past MCR tours they would go to many places all over the U.S, not just mainly on the east and west coast. Fans around the world were complaining about the places they were going. Many wanted them to come more inward into America, more into the Midwest. Some MCR fans who weren’t located in America were upset it wasn’t a world tour.
This wasn’t the end of what was in store for this new era. With the tour announcement, there was a video connected with it picturing a dictator character of some sort walking into and up a building and eventually going onto a balcony and looking over the same city pictured in the Instagram post from the previous day. A photo on November 14th was posted onto the account Instagram, it showed a Doberman dog with a collar on and the same strange lettering as seen on the first Instagram post next to it, it was captioned “Good Boy”. Then another video came out on November 14 called “Opera”. It pictures 4 different leaders of some sort sitting in a room seemingly possibly distressed, a lady walks into the room and opens her mouth like she is about to sing, but in reality, a screaming type of broken record noise comes out of her and then the video ends there. Fans are unsure what any of this could mean, and most are confused as to why new lore is being added to an album that was supposed to be “dead” 16 years ago. Most of this is still a mystery to the community, many questions are being left unanswered. What could this new era bring us?
