Wicked (part one) is Rated PG directed by Jon M Chu, and Written by Winnie Holzman, Dana Fox, and Gregory Maguire. This story is based on the original Broadway musical Wicked and a prequel to the 1939 The Wizard Of Oz. This story begins with a young woman born different than the others with green skin and the powers of a witch, Misunderstood and mistreated, Elphaba arrives at Shiz University school and faces othering for her green complexion. It wasn’t all planned to go to Shiz, accompanied by her disabled sister Nessarose. She is offered to be a student at Shiz by the headmaster Madame Morrible. Morrible recognizes her for her unique skin and powers and gives her the upper hand and private lessons on how to take control of her powers. Her roommate Glina is the complete opposite of Elphaba, Glinda is popular, outgoing, smart, and liked by all. Glinda is jealous of Elphaba and her advantage with the headmaster. They buttheads back and forth, Elphaba knows Glinda wants what she has and she puts in a good word for her with the headmaster, this gives Glinda an advantage in getting a wand to practice magic. Soon after Glinda thanks Elphaba and exchanges her kind offering to help her become “popular”. They end up sharing an unlikely sister bond, as they take risks and go to the great and powerful wizard of Oz, but things suddenly take an unlikely turn.
The musical has a great storyline and goes into detail about every character. It gives little references to the original Wizard of Oz film. It has tons of laughing moments and heartfelt ones. It shows such a good message for all ages I would say. The story shows you different perspectives of people mistreated and bullied and the point of view of people with the natural glow of popularity. It highlights friendship, romance, and kindness, My overall review of this movie I would say is it’s a fantastic film.
There is a very big message from end to beginning, one to always treat others how you want to be treated, enjoy your sweet friendships, and protect them with all you’ve got.
