Junior baseball player Tucker Krevitz believes the new stadium has potential. “I think the idea is really cool but parking will be rough,” Krevitz said.

The Kansas City Royals have announced plans to build a new stadium at the Crossroad District next to T-Mobile Center. I believe that would be a poor idea and would cause a lot of problems.

First, the parking is great at Kauffman Stadium as there are multiple entry points and multiple exits. If they move the stadium you will have to drive around to find parking garages which will get congested. With people walking into the stadium it will be a lot harder to drive since there will be people walking on the road you will be driving on.

Next, the fountains and scoreboards at Kauffman are iconic. You can see the years they won the World Series on the back of the current scoreboard from the highway. Although you can’t see the fountains from outside the stadium, it is one of the best features in the stadium. In the pictures of what the new stadium could look like there was only one fountain and not the iconic scoreboard. Junior baseball player Alex Todd thinks building a new stadium is a bad idea.

“I think it is dumb because our current stadium is unique and it seems like a waste of money,” Todd said.

Although, there aren’t many attractions around where Kauffman is currently located, moving to the city would help some small businesses. I do think you could just build some restaurants and other attractions near the current stadium. Sophomore baseball player Blake Overbeck overall doesn’t like the idea but sees some positives in the move.

“I think it will be good for businesses and make more money for the city, but I like where the current stadium is,” Overbeck said.

The Royals could be playing in their new stadium by Opening Day in 2028 if it is approved.
