COMMITTED. During the Truman JV match on Sept. 14 Brett Wininegar (6) gets a break away while Truman’s Mathew Snapp (5) tries to get the ball back. Wininegar is involved in eight other activities besides soccer. “I’m never bored,” Wininegar said.

Senior Brett Wininegar wakes up at 5:30 in the morning to start his day. As he goes through his morning routines he’s trying to remember all of the things he has to do for the day. Before he leaves his house he makes sure to eat the most important meal of the day. He is ready to leave for school around 6:30 a.m. with all his stuff, when he arrives he goes to the club meetings for that day. After his meetings he heads to his first hour class, ready to take on Mrs. Gibson’s class.

Wininegar is involved in nine different before and after school activities. He has been involved in soccer, cross country, Youth Advisory Council (YAC), Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), and club 121 for four years. He’s been in Health Occupational Student of America (HOSA) and National Honors Society for three years. Then lastly he’s been in Theater and Envirothon for two years. Wininegar is always on the move. He understands that he won’t be able to be everywhere at the same time.

“Sometimes you have to make sacrifices like not doing chemistry homework or skipping out on social activities, but there is no dull moment,” Wininegar said.

Wininegar joined HOSA his sophomore year and is now the president. He works very hard planning fun events to get his members out to the health field and give people more opportunities to learn and go into the medical field. Sophomore Riley Filmore thinks he is very good at what he does.

“He’s very inspirational because he’s very good at what he does when he does it,” Filmore siad.

Wininegar is extremely active after school hours. He has soccer as his main sport during the fall. He is one of the JV captains and plays everywhere on the field. Most of the time you can find him playing defense on the outside back or a midfield wing. His Saturday starts with an early wake up call so he can make the bus for his cross country meet. Freshman Cooper Speaks enjoys playing with him during soccer and looks up to his commitment.

“He’s extremely diligent, anything he does he wants to get it done and he’s always with it and always there,” Speaks said.

One of Wininegar’s favorite memories at Fort is when HOSA went to relay for life in 2021 at Truman High School. Wininegar loves being surrounded with his friends doing things he loves.

“We probably sang karaoke together for three to four hours straight and it was very tiring but it was a lot of fun,” Wininegar said.

After his school day has been completed he changes into his workout clothes and heads out to soccer practice. Once practice is over he heads home to work on his class assignments. Then before he can finally rest from his long day he hits the gym. After his last workout of the day he heads to bed so he can be energized to repeat it all again the next day.
