Fort Osage High School theater department performed SpongeBob the Musical on Feb. 6 at 7 pm, Feb. 7 at 7 pm, and Feb. 8 at 2 pm and 7 pm.
SpongeBob the Musical attracted attention from all ages. The Fort Osage community supported the theater department, filling the seats every night. Senior Supha Yates was cast as SpongeBob, the lead role. Before every show, Yates got into character by stretching and running around to get the adrenaline pumping. Yates believes the role of SpongeBob has always been called to her.
“I am in love with this musical,” Yates said. “It is a dream come true that I got to be SpongeBob and I am just so incredibly thankful for everyone and everything that has happened.”
Weeks of long hours are put into all Fort Osage Musicals from staff, students, and parents. Senior Stage Manager Karma Jones is extremely proud of their crew and the actors. They want the viewers to understand the amount of sprinting and cues their crew has to do flawlessly every night. Jones believes that the tiny details make the show magical.
“Pay attention to all the tiny details cause someone out there was planned to make it happen,” Jones said.
The energy of the crowd was unmatched in years past. Theater department alumni Molly Friel came to support her friends and past cast mates. She believes Fort Osage Theater has continued to improve since her graduation.
“I think the set design was phenomenal this year, the band as always is killing it this year they just really took it up a notch this year,” Friel said.
Fort Osage Theaters’ next performance will be this spring and will be the annual senior-directed one-act plays.
