As we end the year, some students are faced with the decision of taking summer school to get ahead or not get left behind. Summer school helps give opportunities to students to fit those needs. Summer school lasts from May 29 to June 28. Freshman Principal Joe Bedard thinks it’s an opportunity to get to know upcoming high schoolers and get them comfortable with the building.
“It’s an opportunity to get to know students, specifically our Rising ninth-grade students,” Bedard said, “You get to know them before they actually get into the high school as well, to get to have a little bit of fun in a non-traditional way and so we do a lot.”
Summer school mainly offers credits for electives, Coach Josh Wilson feels it gives kids opportunities to make up credits.
“There’s multiple opportunities again to take some of those classes that maybe you can’t take during the school year and gives you those opportunities to get some exercise get out and continue to see your friends,” Wilson said, “and then there’s also classes offered that you need to make up credit for things like that so a lot of different opportunities”
Summer school gives freshmen the opportunity to get four years of broadcasting experience. Coach Abby Hix believes it gives kids something to do.
“I think it gives them just kind of like a schedule, some structure, something to do um meet new people that maybe they usually won’t get to see during the school year when there’s so many kids but yeah something to do.”
