PROTECTED. Medical workers prepare a dose of the COVID-19 Vaccine. FOSD Teachers and staff voluntarily received vaccines in late March and early April.

Story by Shia Mobley, Co-Editor

Fort Osage staff members received the first dose of the Pfizer BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccination on March 18, 2021 at Fort Osage High School. Teachers received the second dosage of the vaccination on April 8, 2021. Health care workers administered 330 vaccines to district staff members.

Staff members were feeling good about the vaccination.

“I felt pretty good after getting the shot,” teacher Mr Josh Malecki writes.

They were also excited to be taking steps back towards normalcy.

“I think the vaccine is the best way to achieve some sort of normalcy, although it is going to take a while to get enough people vaccinated to achieve herd immunity,” teacher Mr. Josh Malecki said in an email.

Students over the age of 16 will be eligible to receive the vaccine by April 5, 2021. Staff members and students alike are awaiting the day to get theirs.

“I am excited for when everyone has finished their vaccinations so we can go back to normal everyday life and activities,” Sophomore Raven Pearson said in an email.

Student’s parents agree with their children on the vaccines as well.

“I think that anyone who wants the vaccine should be able to get one,” Robert Nichols says.

The Pfizer vaccine was approved by the FDA on December 11, 2020. The vaccine is 95% effective in preventing COVID-19.
