As Thanksgiving comes once every year, it fills everyone up with holiday cheer, but not for itself but for another day, and that day of giving is the Christmas holiday.
Every year as Thanksgiving comes around, people are actually not excited for it but rather for Christmas since they start setting up Christmas decorations instead of doing Thanksgiving-themed ones like pumpkins, turkeys, orange leaves, and pilgrims. The main goal of this story is to figure out why people don’t talk that much about Thanksgiving as a whole but instead just a day of gluttony.
When I was thinking of this news story, I couldn’t really think of any good questions to ask people. The first question I thought of and decided to ask Sophomore, Alexis Dang, was, Do you think Thanksgiving is important compared to the holidays? This is what she had to say.
“Not really. I don’t celebrate Thanksgiving in general because, y’know, I’m Asian. I think it’s nice to come together as a family to eat, but even historically, I would say it’s insignificant.”
The next thing I thought to ask was, Do you get excited about Thanksgiving? Why But I thought everybody would say no, but everybody is different, like Sophomore and Riley Shelton, who had to say otherwise.
“Yes, I do, because I get to enjoy quality time with my family and I get to eat great food.”
And finally, the most important question to ask is: Why put up Christmas decorations during the month of Thanksgiving instead of ones that show the Thanksgiving spirit? Senior, Michai Collins, responded with
“Because Thanksgiving and Christmas are so close that Christmas spirit is felt and it’s cold so everyone wears their pajamas so it’s perfect season for decorating.”
Overall, some people think Thanksgiving is a good holiday for its values, while others think that it holds no value at all and that Christmas spirit takes over Thanksgiving’s month since all the conditions for Christmas start. It may be sad, and some see it as bad, but at least it’s still celebrated. Happy Thanksgiving!
