When you first walk into a bookstore you see so many books by many famous and popular authors like J.K. Rowling, R.L. Stine, Stephen King, and starting now, Fort Osage High School students. When you think of authors you don’t tend to think of younger people but instead people who have been in the writing genre for years. Instead of giving the spotlight to these old authors why not give it to the younger generation of writers who have the potential to exceed all expectations and come up with new and better ideas that some people might not have even heard of to change the way of writing forever.
Each writer earns a commission for each sale. Senior, Chaos Nash, believes the writing process of a book can be hard at times.
“It did get a little difficult sometimes but overall I didn’t have a hard time since I had those writings already ready from creative writing first semester, it was very on and off, I struggled a little but eventually I got the hang of it,” Nash said.
After the manuscript is sent, students receive their book in a week. Junior Karma Jones, feels that being an author is something most people could only dream about.
“It’s pretty great knowing that being published is an option is kinda awesome, especially because I feel like being published is something that a lot of people see more as a pipe dream than an actual reality that can happen,” Jones Said.
There are over 15 books that were created by the students. Teacher Dr. Anne Farmer, gives help and good assignments to help students write their books.
“We do writing prompts, all students write a rough draft then we go through the revisions and then theirs a final draft process, and I give a lot of feedback,” Dr. Farmer said.
