When you picture high school assemblies what do you see? You probably think about crowded bleachers and the latest gossip wafting through the air. If this is what you picture it would be true anywhere else but here at Fort Osage, we kick things up a notch. Going back nearly two decades the student body has participated in chanting “We Are Fort” at the beginning of each assembly.
Superintendent Dr. Jason Snodgrass has been a part of the school community for fifteen years. Dr. Snodgrass explains why he started the “We Are Fort” tradition.
“I was a first-year principal here at Fort Osage and I wanted a chant that really excited and motivated everybody and brought our school together to have school pride,” Dr. Snodgrass said.
The tradition began in August of 2009 and has been hyping up the student body for fifteen years. Former student and current Broadcasting teacher Chance Parsons feels proud of how far the school has come.
“Seeing the tradition of we are fort continue almost 14 years later is special in my eyes. It helps me connect with the school and feel proud of how far we have come,” Parsons said.
The tradition is being carried out by Alex Snodgrass who will graduate next year. Junior Alex Snodgrass believes the We Are Fort tradition should live on.
“I think that if we find a student that is avidly involved in the school I feel like it’s very important for the tradition to live on,” says Snodgrass.
The next time you can participate in this tradition will be during the spring sports assembly. Always remember, We! Are! Fort!
