Junior Tyler Sharp checks his schedule on the updated Infinite Campus software. The new software automatically sets schedules based on an algorithm.

With the start of the second semester came new schedule changes for students across the school. Hours were changed and teachers were changed. But the changes were made by Infinite Campus’ scheduling software, which uses an algorithm to determine the best possible schedule for the school.  Ms. Melessa Demo believes that the change has not affected many students.

“We definitely haven’t gotten more requests,” Ms. Demo said. “We’ve gotten about the same or less than normal.”

Ms. Demo went on to say her advice for students complaining about the changes would be that change is part of life. According to a Signal Poll answered by 21 students, 61.9% of students were happy with the changes.

According to the Counseling Centers Administrative Assistant, Ms. Marcie Bozeman, between Dec.1 and Jan. 31, 259 requests to see a counselor, not including emails, were submitted. Junior Christina Shoen feels the school should have asked the students before changing the schedules.

I know it’s a lot of students to ask but they should have asked the students first before they did this to make sure that it was okay with them,” Shoen said.

Before the end of the first semester Ms. Laci Cox, 10-12 grade counselor for students H-R, talked to about 50 students concerning schedule changes. After the second semester started another 20-30 students signed up to talk about schedule changes according to Ms. Cox. Junior Kaden Hoppins thinks the schedule changes were a bad idea.

“It made it harder to find my classes and caused me to be tardy more,” Hoppins said in an email.

The new scheduling software from Infinite Campus was implemented at the beginning of the 2019-20 school year.
