PRODUCING. New broadcast teacher Chance Parsons (left) helps Senior Neveah McNew (right) with creating a soccer hype video. Mr. Parsons has previously worked broadcasting sports teams, “Some of my favorite broadcasting moments were when we had to do a Royal parade and a Chiefs parade,” Parsons said, “and just getting to see the behind the scenes of them was amazing.”

Mr. Chance Parsons walks into his classroom, ready to start the school day. He’s a rookie teacher, but his students greet him and prepare to start the school day. Mr. Parsons is a new high school Journalism teacher, and he finds that he’s provided support by his students.

“I think when you start anything new, there’s a little bit of nervousness or anxiety that comes with that,” Parsons said, “but so far, I’ve found that my students are very accepting, and they have patience, and we’re on the same page.”

Parsons graduated with a degree in Broadcast Production from Northwest Missouri State University in 2014. Sophomore Bradyn Ison feels that he’s a good first year teacher.

“He’s a goofy guy, I think he’s a good teacher,” Ison said, “He’s very knowledgeable about broadcasting. I’m glad to have him as my broadcasting teacher.”

Parsons previously worked at KCTV-5 and as a Content Producer for CarMax. Senior Mariah McQueen believes that he’ll provide a new look at Broadcasting.

“I’m looking forward to the way he’s going to teach us differently than Merithew did.” McQueen said.

As the day comes to a close, Mr. Parsons looks at the work produced, and plans for the next day.
