If I got a nickel for every time we have gotten a new pass this school year I would have two nickels, which is weird considering we already had a new pass made.
The new E-Pass program is a system that is used in other metro area schools and is being implemented here at Fort Osage. It also helps with overcrowding in places like the bathroom during class periods and tracks the time students use wandering around the hallways or even going where they are supposed to go.
The new E-Passes tell students & staff what time they leave & how much time they have to return to the classroom. Senior, Lexus Butler, feels this gives them much more control over went they go to the restroom.
“I think it gives us a chance to be responsible with time and resources,” Lexus said.
With the passes, you have to fill out a bunch of information just to go somewhere, this has left students like Sophomore, Riley Morrow, Befuddled.
“It’s a little more confusing because you should just be able to write your name and leave but now you have to go into the computer and type in everything and get your teacher’s approval and still take the hall pass,” said Riley.
The passes give teachers many new features while also making some changes, Teacher, Rachel Schaller believes these changes & features will be good.
“I think this is going to be an excellent change. It keeps kids in class more cause they’re restricted to 5 passes a week and it will give us data on which students are out in the hallway for an extended period of time,” said Mrs.Schaller.
To staff it feels like the students are in control but to some students, they feel that they are puppets to the system. Most students don’t know this but with the e-passes, you only get 5 each week and if you have used all of them you get kicked out of the site and can’t use it at all. Once you run out of passes, there is no way to know if your teacher will let you use the restroom or not. You might think you can lie about having a pass but the system can check if you do, so that really isn’t an option you have.
The E-hall pass system is still in its testing phase.
