DISCUSSION. Mr. Stepp regularly invites classroom discussions, and lets students voice their own opinions on history. He finds that retirement will give him a lot to explore. “I’m not exactly sure what I’m gonna do when I retire,” Stepp said, “I may continue teaching somewhere, may get another job, I’d like to travel more.”

After teaching at Fort Osage for 26 years, Mr. Shawn Stepp announced he would be retiring at the end of the 2023-2024 school year. He remembers his time at Fort fondly.

“My favorite memories here have been winning District champions with basketball,” Stepp said, “and the memories I’ve made with students and fellow staff members, especially with stuff like Stepptember.”

Mr. Stepp teaches social studies, including World History and Global Conflicts. Senior Liam Strong feels that his retirement will leave him missed by the school.

“I think that he will be missed by all of the staff and students who know him,” Strong said, “I know that even though I’m graduating, I’m still sad he’s retiring.”

Mr. Stepp also coaches Boys Basketball along with Mr. Josh Wilson. Basketball player Isaac Woodward thinks that pushes you into being your best.

“Coach Stepp is someone who wants the best possible work out of you,” Woodward said, “whether it is in his classroom or he is coaching you.”

It is not currently known who will take over Mr. Stepp’s classes next school year, or coach the basketball team.
