LEAD OFF. Ready to take off the bag when the pitching motion starts Senior Izzi Cobb looks at the pitcher watching for her signal to get off the bag. Cobb went three for three at the plate in the game. “I definitely think we worked as a team and seniors were excited to hit off our last first game,” Cobb said.

The girl’s softball team took on the Winnetonka Griffins on Aug.29. The team won big with a score of 16-0. Head Coach Kelly Sullivan feels offense and defense both played very well.

“I feel like the girls did a really good job of playing their positions well and at the plate executing,” Sullivan said.

The Indians hit consistently in all innings scoring four runs in every single inning. They also had 14 RBIs and 18 hits. Sophomore Bailey Wood and Senior Sidney Sullivan each had home runs. Senior Izzi Cobb also had a triple. Cobb thinks the offense played a big role in winning the game.

“We were consistently hitting,” Cobb said.

The defense also held off the Griffins with zero total runs. Junior Madison Chamberlain pitched only a four-hit game, with all four hitters being left on base. She also had four strikeouts. Sullivan believes the team came together really well to clench the win.

“We had a lot of good communication in the field and we were able to get the bat on the ball,” Sullivan said.
The Indians start their season off with a record of 1-1. They fell short to the Grain Valley Eagles 5-1 on Aug. 31.

The Indians will face Raytown on Sep. 5 at home.
