Students take on annual Job Olympics

FIRST AID. Thomas Lacy rips open an alcohol wipe in order to take care of the baby. Lacy finished 1st in First Aid and Grocery Bagging.

The annual Job Olympics were held on Apr. 26, 2024. At the Job Olympics, students compete against other schools in day-to-day skills or jobs. Freshman Jozilynn Herron likes going to the Job Olympics because of the time she spends with her peers.

“I like this day because I get to dance with my friends,” Herron said.

Herron placed 1st in Animal Care and 2nd in Infant Care. Along with her, three other students placed 1st in different categories, three other students placed 2nd in different categories, and three other students placed third in different categories. Student helper Destiny Thompkins believes watching their progress has been so rewarding to watch.

“It has been so amazing watching them progress from the beginning of the semester to now,” Thompkins said, “They are up here presenting to these people they don’t know, and it is really good to see.”

In total, Fort Osage had 13 students participate. Student Volunteer Emmah Crowe feels the Job Olympics helps students feel confident in their skills.

“I think the Job Olympics gave the students great opportunities to show off their skills and what they’ve learned throughout the year,” Crowe said.

Some of the jobs they participated in were wiping tables, folding napkins, sacking groceries, etc.
