The National Honor Society held its spring blood drive on April 3 in Gym 3. Students were able to donate during school until 1 pm. National Honor Society Co-President Sadie Lucas loves that the drive helps save victims of mass casualty incidents.
“Donating blood helps the community because you’re not only helping in tragic situations like if there was a car accident or a mass casualty event you’re giving blood out,” Lucas said.
Students had to be at least 16 to donate blood. National Honor Society Co-president and donor Christopher Brown feels that donating blood helps people in need.
“Ever since COVID I think the United States has been experiencing a major blood shortage so by donating you’re helping with the blood shortage and you’re giving blood to people who need it,” Brown said.
The Community Blood Center facilitated the drive and supplied the staff. Youth Engagement Specialist Linda Moriarity with the Community Blood Center thinks donating can make you feel good about yourself.
“They feel good about helping out,” Moriarity said, “It’s a way to kind of support the community and be a community service, and a pint of blood can help up to 3 patients.”
