Ghostbusters mixes old with new

Story by Trey Lee, Reporter

As a kid I always enjoyed watching movies. I really liked watching older classics such as “Grease,” “Forrest Gump,” and all of the “Ghostbusters” movies. So, it was a surprise when I heard that a new movie was coming out, called “Ghostbusters: After Life.” (PG-13) The movie is directed by Jason Reitman and came out on Nov. 19, 2021.

“Ghostbusters: Afterlife” is the fourth movie addition to the “Ghostbusters” franchise. The movie is about a brother and sister who move to the middle of nowhere to their deceased Grandfather’s home in Summerville, Oklahoma. A lot of strange occurrences happen on his property. Their goal is to figure where the root of all of this is coming from.

The movie brings back some of the classic characters such as Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson. It also includes new upcoming actors Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, and Celeste O’Connor.

I went to see the movie with my mom and little sister, and they were even intrigued by the move. The movie was very entertaining and really kept you asking for more information with each scene. The whole movie was great. The scenes made you feel as if you knew how it would go, then another conflict would happen that would change your entire mindset.

Honestly, I feel like the movie was overall a great film. The special effects were really cool. The ghost looked very real, and the fight scenes really looked real. This was brought to life by Arjen Tuiten. Although more emotion could have been added by the actors, you could feel the excitement through the screen.

Throughout the entire Ghostbusters franchise, this is the only one to incorporate new and older characters. The older characters came in at the end of the movie, with an exception of Harold Ramis, who passed away in 2014 not much interaction was made. It felt strange not seeing him on the screen. I would give this movie 6.5 out of 10 stars. It was a great movie but overall could have been better. I would recommend this movie to a younger audience and fans of the franchise.
