PASSING BY: Junior, Marcus Wilson, poses with the 201 hall pass on his way to the restroom.

You are in class when you suddenly get the urge to go to the bathroom, you go to your teacher to get a pass. Need to get a drink? Pass. Do you have to deliver something to a teacher? Pass.

Every day students have to use the yellow slips of paper that will just be thrown away but, with the new school year, they decided to make the pass much bigger, leaving everybody with mixed opinions.

Lauren Brandmueller, the assistant principal, feels that the new passes make it easier for teachers and admin.

“We are still using the yellow slips for places other than the bathroom. The bathroom pass allows only one person to be in the bathroom at a time and it’s easier for an adult to see,” Brandmueller said.

Almost everybody in the school has certain opinions regarding the new hall passes, some good and some bad. Haven Rogers, Junior, thinks this is a good idea.

“I think it does somewhat help with how long students are out for because the teachers do know the code and can send them to class,” Rogers said.

Students have to wait in lines to go to the bathroom, Sophomore, Lauren Rogge feels like this change won’t be so good.

“I think that they should maybe let 2 or 3 people go, not just one, it may be the last class of the day and a lot of people have to go to the restroom and they have to go one at a time and you don’t know how long that person will be in the restroom,” Rogge said.

On one hand, the passes are good for observing where students are and so teachers can send them back to their classes so they don’t skip or talk to friends when they should be learning. On the other hand, students have pointed out that they only let 1 person go instead of 2 or 3 creates a big lines of people waiting to go to the bathroom.
