With spring approaching, the girl’s high school soccer season is right around the bend. The girls soccer tryouts began on March 2 and ended on March 6. Practice will be held after school every day from 2:30-4:30.

Coach Michael Brown has been coaching for a decade, having spent three of the years at Fort Osage. Last season, the team broke the shutout record at 16. They ended the 2019 soccer season 20-2. Coach Brown hopes that this season may hold a third conference title in a row for the team. He has been preparing his players for the upcoming season, setting standards for them on and off the field.

“I think the three coaches have different approaches and we balance each other out well,”Coach Brown said. “We’re happy with where the culture is.”

Junior Aliyah Ayala expects to advance to the District Final again. She scored 61 goals last year. Although she is sad to see the seniors graduate, she looks forward to seeing how the new freshmen affect the team.

“I think everyone is going to make an impact this year,” Ayala explained. “We have all worked really hard in off season training and I know we’re ready to go. (Coach) Brown makes conditioning fun and also very beneficial with everyone as a team and developing team chemistry.”

Chemistry is a word that has repeatedly appeared when speaking about the relationships between players. Sophomore Emma Lee believes that friendships and bonding play an important role in the sport.

“You have to have good chemistry and good friendships in order to play a good game,” Lee said.

The girls will start off the season with a jamboree on March 17 at the school’s stadium. They will play 3 shortened matches against Raytown, Raytown South and William Chrisman.
